Ava DuVernay adapts sci-fi novel, Dawn

Selma director Ava DuVernay is set to team up with writer-director Victoria Mahoney on a television series adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s acclaimed 1987 sci-fi novel, Dawn.

The story follows an African-American woman who works with an alien race to revive the human race, wiped out 250 years previous by nuclear war. The book formed the first chapter of the Lilith’s Brood trilogy.

DuVernay will produce, alongside Poppy Hanks, Allen Bain, Gary Pearl, Thomas L. Carter and Teddy Smith.
