Following years of fandom hand-wringing, Marvel Studios are reportedly in-development on a standalone Black Widow feature.
Nasty Women scribe Jac Schaeffer has been signed up by the studio to pen the project, having been hand-picked by studio head Kevin Feige after meeting several candidates. The feature is still in the very early stages of development, and, as such, has yet to receive the official green light.
The studio has, however, involved actress Scarlett Johansson, with discussions having taken place for her to return to the role she has played in no less than five Marvel Cinematic Universe instalments to date.
What’s up in the air for now is when such a feature could feasibly arrive, with Marvel’s Phase 3 set to end with next year’s untitled Avengers instalment and Phase 4 beginning with the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel in July 2019. At present, the earliest the Black Widow feature could potentially arrive would be in late 2020, several months after the studio’s currently-in-development Guardians of the Galaxy threequel.
