Halle Berry has revealed that she and Hugh Jackman concocted a romantic backstory for their X-Men characters in their cinematic appearances.
“Storm and Logan used to be lovers, It’s true,” Berry tells Entertainment Weekly. “Storm and Logan had a thing … I joke in the movies, I’m like, How come nobody’s loving on Storm. Like what’s wrong with Storm? Nobody is checking for Storm .. So, we decided that Storm and Logan had a thing, and then Jean came and messed that up … When he really decided that Jean Grey was his love that caused a problem … The having two girls at once thing, that didn’t work for Storm.”
Berry’s words, of course, don’t impact the story of the X-Men universe at all, and mostly serve as an amusing curio. The connection between the two characters has, in fact, never been teased in any way on-screen, save for a deleted sequence in X-Men: Days of Future Past in which Logan offers Storm a passionate kiss goodbye.
In the source comics, the character of Storm has had a few romantic interests, notably in the form of Black Panther and Forge. However, her cinematic counterpart has always proven somewhat strangely sexless in comparison, lacking anything even close to a love interest.
