Director James Wan may be currently at work on his instalment of the DC canon, but – with Annabelle: Creation opening in theatres this week – its his regular franchise that’s getting all the attention.
The second feature to be birthed of Wan’s The Conjuring series, Annabelle: Creation is to be followed by two further spin-offs in the form of The Nun and The Crooked Man (which Wan will produce), as well as a third chapter in the central Conjuring series itself. It’s this third instalment however that’s proving a bone of contention: largely in that Wan himself is simply too busy to helm it.
“I just don’t think it’s realistic with my schedule,” he explained. “I’m going to be on Aquaman for a year-and-a-half. I just don’t see that as a reality.”
Wan will, however, remain a producer on the project, revealing that work on the screenplay is underway, and that there is no incentive to rush the threequel into theatres before getting it into good shape.
Annabelle: Creation is in cinemas now.
