Warner Bros. have landed the film rights for Lezley McSpadden’s Ferguson-based memoir, Tell the Truth & Shame the Devil.
McSpadden is the mother of the late Michael Brown, the eighteen year-old African-American teen killed by police officer Darren Wilson in 2014. His death – in Ferguson, Missouri – sparked a violent debate on the state of race and police conduct in America when it emerged that Brown had held his hands up in surrender.
The studio is said to be eager to pursue a writer of colour to adapt the memoir, which they see as having the potential to be the next Crash. No other talent is attached to the property at yet.
